Another Antique Lover

It's the end of October. This weekend was a bit busy. On the Saturday morning we spent our time looking for materials and fabrics for our armchair project. This is a different chair project than the grain sack chair. I will certainly put some picture up later when the project is finished. One chair is done. I might put a sneak a peak during the next week. I'm a bit excited about the chairs my self.

Saturday afternoon, my husband and I spent with our godson. It was a beautiful ceremony.Little K was calm during the whole ceremony and my husband was sweating. He was holding him. But I have to say, it was really hot. =)The evening we spent with eating and chatting. Good times! Today we started the chair project. Exciting!! After one chair we had a break and went to visit my parents.

Last week, when my husband was in the army, I visited my dear friend Johanna. She also loves old furniture and vintage things. I had my camera with me and I shooted  few pictures of her beautiful flat.

Hope you all had a nice weekend !!

Grain Sack Chair

This idea of covering up an armchair with a grain sack has been gnawing my mind for a while now. My husband and I have this old and green chair. We bought it a long time ago. It was found by an accident from a vintage store. But I guess it was one of those things you knew it right away that you have to have it. It's from the 40's. I like the shape of it, but the color, green, doesn't startle me anymore.

The idea of using a grain sack as a cover has been in my mind for a long time. I found some grain sacks from the flea market about a year ago. From those I made two pillows.
It's hard to find soft and linen like grain sacks around here. It's easier to find jute like grain sacks. Jute is a bit hard fabric to use in a chair and you always get some fuzz from it to your clothes.

Here is some pictures that I picked up from Google when I was browsing around looking for ideas and things that have been made from a grain sack.

I have to search even harder, so I have a chance to bump into some grain sacks. I was reading all the beautiful blogs you all have and I was so lucky to find Gracie's beautiful blog and her awesome Great American Grain Sack Giveaway. I hope you all check it out. Maybe you get lucky and get this.

Well I wish you all a great weekend!

Tomorrow me and my husband have a baptism to our godson. Excting!!!

Something new, something old

If you love handicrafts, vintage, tuning old things and flea markets, you have to visit sellariina . The page is in Finnish, but you can use the translator to have it in any language you need. It's a new blog like mine, so I have to support and advertise it a bit. The feeling of being read and heard is just fantastic. Have a visit at sellariina's blog and enjoy. Here's some pictures from the blog.

Only a plan?

I have to say, we are running a little bit late with our plane tickets. There are great friends waiting us over the seas. Our plan is to fly out from Finland on Boxing day and land to Calgary, Canada on the same day. Mostly our friends live in Calgary and Windsor. Between these cities are lots of miles. So we have fly to another. By buss it will will take three days. We can't afford spending three days in a buss, because the vacation is not that long. Three weeks is enough time to catch up with friends, if you don't need to spend any time for traveling from place to place.

I''m hoping to find some flea markets and vintage stores during the vacation. I heard from my friends that Detroit has a good one, but I don't know much about it, just location. One thing that gives us a hard time is the change of the kg's that you can travel with and only one suitcase. I usually shop till I drop so there is never enough room for all the things that I have bought. We also have lots of souvenirs to bring to our friends. One thing that I love is packing. Packing for vacation!! I can't wait!!

Enjoy your day! Here it's nice and sunny so far...

Old license plates

Today was my second day of lesson monitoring. I have to say it is always interesting to sit behind the classroom and observe. When you are having a class, you will miss out so much things that happens behind your back. Kids can be really creative. It is only 2 weeks and I will start in my own classes. I'm excited about that. These children will be on a 6th grade in Finnish education system. My class is also part of a Middle Years Programme, so that means teaching in englsih. Will be an experience for sure. My own field is Special Education.

My husband dressed up in army greens today. The government called him for military refresher. He will back on Friday. I already booked my calendar for great friends and dinners so I don't have to be alone. I was also thinking of stopping by at the flea market this week. Here are some signs that I found from flea markets. The power sign is from my husband's work. Still looking for more...

Touch of industrial chic

I'm loving the industrial chic style and specially when it's mixed with wooden vintage furniture and shabby chic touch. Last weeks treasure hunt was nice. Found an old light and it looks like it's from an old Russian motorbike. That lamp is still at my husband's work place. The lamp needed a little TLC and a new light system build inside so we can use it as a lamp at the flat. I'm excited to see how it will turn out.

This little industrial style light was found about a month ago at the flea market. It was also taken care by my husband. It needed a new bulb in it and because of it's size, it was hard to find. But finally he found one and now it gives a nice atmosphere light to the living room. It's perfect for dark upcoming winter nights.

I'm off for this weekend to celebrate my nephew's 2 year birthday. Will be fun times.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Luck and SunShine

Today it's my dear husband's 30th Birthday. We already had his surprice party couple weeks ago, but I think it's still nice to remember on the exact day also. We are having some friends over today and I have to run to the store to get some eggs for the cake. Well hope you all have a great day. I wish you all a luck and sunshine, like my little sign says.

EXcellent, EXhilarating and EXquisite weekend

This weekend has been EXcellent, EXcited, EXhilarating and EXquisite. I spent my whole Friday afternoon and night with my dear friend and her EXquisite family. We always have some EXtensive and EXuberant conversations. I love them. We talked about everything. We both have a same problem. What kind of lamps or lights to have in the bedroom. I have also googled for interior pictures and ideas for bedroom lightning. Usually they have beautiful table lamps or wall lamps for EXample, not dome light. I need to find ideas for dome lights for bedroom. Do you have an idea?

Saturday was also EXcellent. My mom and I made an EXcursion to couple vintage store. I'm always ready to participate EXcitedly to this EXcursions. You never know what EXclusive you will this time. That is what makes it EXotic. We had an EXciting day. My husband could not attend to this EXcursion because he had and EXam for is school. And it is always EXquisite to have a nice mother-daughter day. I will put pictures up later of the finding that I did this weeked.

Hope you all had an EXcellent weekend!

On line or above?

Today I have been cleaning around the aparment. Kitchen was my first target. I cleared out the drawers which has spoon, forks and knives and all the other necessary kitchen instruments. Some of them I haven't seen for a long time and some of then I didn't even know what to do with them. So all that went to the trash can. It's looking at lot better now.

In the living room it's time to clean and change the way how my shelfs look.. I love my Maribowls. I'm not much of a collector to those, but I got most of them as presents. And I'm always ready to have more. My mom has dozens of Maribowls. But that it mostly my fault, because it sure was an easy idea for christmas presents.

I usually have then lined up. I think it was time to put then on top of each other. The frame that I bought from the flea market will give a nice sash to them.

Have a good day everyone!

Project 32 is done!

I ordered some number signs couple weeks ago from http://shop.lundagard.fi/fi/ and today they came. I was so excited and after my University lecture I ran to the post office to get them. At home I could finish my project with one of the old wooden boxes that I bought from the flea market also about couple weeks ago. It's painted white and has little wheels on so it will be easier to move it around when needed. And for the finished looked, I screwed the old number sign 32 on it.

Have a great week everyone!

Feeling festive

I woke up early this foggy Saturday morning. Weather seems to be changed for good. I have to accept that nice and warm autumn is gone and it is time to face the winter. My spring/autumn jacket feels sheer when the wind really gets you. I guess I have to dig up my winter jacket from the walk-in closet. The fact that I happens to love my winter jacket really comforts me.

It is almost middle of the October. This month for me and my husband feels busy. All the weekends are booked. My husband will turn thirty, my nephew will turn two and out dear godson will be baptised in the end of this month. I'm feeling festive! Time usually starts to fly towards Christmas around October if it has not already started. So that means that I have to start planning a little Christmas party soon. For me and husband it's become a tradition. Every year we throw a party tour friends and it always has a theme too. I haven't thought this years theme yet, but I guess it's time. Last year the theme was Prom. We don't have Prom in high schools here in Finland so it was an experience to my friends. At least to get a hint of it. I was an exchange student back in the 90's in Canada and I had a chance to experience Prom. It was great.

For these up coming events I was thinking of wearing my beautiful pearls. I wore them on my wedding day last year. These beautiful pearls are from Hungary. My great great grandfather gave these to my grandmother in the 30's. The other pair of pearls are from the store VILA. I think i bought them last year for wedding leftovers party that I throw to my wedding party after honeymoon. It was good times with great friends.

Hope you all enjoy your weekend!!

Picture of the day!

I have been busy with my studies lately, but I just had to put this picture up here =)

Something fresh from the jar

Yesterday was fun. Couple of great friends of mine came over. We didn't leave the kitchen the whole night. Everyone brought something to eat with them when they came. So the table was soon full of nice yummies. Ham pie, veggie pie, chips and candy. My stomach was so full when it was time to go to bed. My husband spent his Saturday night at our godson's place. But when he got home, he sure did eat a lot of pie. =)

This Sunday morning started a bit poorly. I woke up with a huge migraine headache. I have had a lot of trouble with the migraine attacks lately. I was going to hit the gym today with my hubby, but he had to go alone today. I have to take it easy today. My stomach is still full from yesterday's feasts. I'll just chomp some of these sweets.

Simply beautiful

The best things in life are nearest:  Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you.  Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life.  ~Robert Louis Stevenson
It's a beautiful Saturday morning everyone, hope you enjoy it like I do. Hot tea and a great new interior book "simply beautiful" to read.
